Wigmore Follies 2005: Northwest Side Story Breaks NU Law Records
April 1st and 2nd, 2005 marked the making of history at Northwestern University School of Law. The 2005 Wigmore Follies, "Northwest Side Story," attracted a record-breaking audience for its depiction of the Law School's warring student gangs--the Spiffs and the Suits--and their poignant reconciliation via a tragic romance. The two performances were among the most memorable events of law school for the Class of 2005, rivalled (naturally) by the Wigmore Follies in 2003 and 2004.

Wigmore Follies 2005 to parodize "West Side Story"
The Wigmore Follies, the annual student-run spoof of the Law School's idiosyncrasies, will take place on April 1st and 2nd at 8 pm in Thorne Auditorium.  This year's show is "Northwest Side Story," a parody of the popular Leonard Bernstein musical "West Side Story."  It follows the conflict between two warring law-student gangs, the Spiffs (nonprofit-minded members of the Student Funded Public Interest Fellowship) and the Suits (hyper-motivated future corporate lawyers).  Like the Jets and Sharks of "West Side Story," the Spiffs and Suits are brought together by a poignant romance.

But the romance of "Northwest Side Story" is more tragicomedic than tragic.  Following the tradition of good-natured satire begun by John Henry Wigmore's "Counselors' Chorus," Wigmore Follies 2005 will poke fun at Dean David Van Zandt; the charitable impulses of large law firms; the oft-derided Lawyer as Problem-Solver program; the tendency of idealistic 1Ls to become materialistic 3Ls; and a high-profile national political figure.

The evening of entertainment will also feature skits parodizing the movie Office Space and the NBC television show Fear Factor and musical performances by Habeas Chorus, the Law School's a capella choir.

Tickets will cost $10; the price of a ticket includes a reception that begins at 7 pm on each evening of the show.  Reservations will soon be available at www.wigmorefollies.com.  Sponsorships are being solicited from law firms and local businesses.  For more information about Wigmore Follies 2005, contact Executive Producer Hudson Hollister '05 at h-hollister2005@law.northwestern.edu.
